kids and desk chairs

when i was in school, i remember my favorite time was when i could just sit and read - and not have to listen to all those silly boys yelling from the back of the room. but then, i spent a lot of time in class reading while the teacher was talking. how many times did mr. ambs yell at me for reading stephen king while he was trying to convince us that puncutation mattered?

i think this classroom idea has merit, espicially for kids (typically boys) who don't learn while trying to sit still. but the high-tech gadgets make it an impossible bar to set for most students whose schools are struggling to buy old-fashoned text books for every student.

As a concept, this doesn't seem that different from the Montessorri Method: allow children to learn and explore at their own pace. The technology is a new component, but doesn't seem "essential". I'm sure he could find ways to get the same outcomes without the computers and iPods. I like the idea.

i agree with you that this seems like a good idea. however, one of his goals is to reduce childhood obesety and while i think this would be a good start, i wonder what else they're doing to support that. is there a nutrition component to the curriculum or healthy snacks in the vending machine? or how about healthy school lunches?
