i was upstairs delivering a med for a patient who has a name that's immortalized an a song. you'd know it if i could tell you. but then the nurse mentioned that her husband works with both fidel castro and manuel noriega. i'm wondering if all dictators eventually end up in tucson with the hippies.
november 18
on november 18 i wrote about a woman i worked with on 3NE whose son was exceptionally supportive and, despite being 88 years old, wanted to continue to live in her home alone. i've seen her in the hospital since, tho never back on 3NE. today, just now actually, she coded and passed away. the son looked shell-shocked and devistated and another relative was sobbing in the hallway. i feel so sad for the family and hopeful that she was able to stay in her home until the end. i also feel torn that i can't do anything, even talk to the son, because i'm not in my official role and i'm not sanctioned to anything social work-ey unless i'm being supervised. i am saying a prayer for this woman and her family.

melinda is a verizon genius! here are those photos, only bigger. and as an added bonus (because without the bonuses, what incentive would you have to read my blog?) i have included a picture of me studying for a final last semester with a buddy. btw ... i got an A.

phone pics
just cuz those last pics turned out so well, i'm gonna post another one. (note sarcasm) so, i'll explain:
this is a picture of a button that's on the wall in the basement of the hospital. it looks like a light-switch plate with a red button in the middle.
the text says: this button doesn't do anything. pushing it is pointless.
direct and to the point. so why do i just want to go push it?!?

here's what i do
because i can't think of anything else to write, because lori is upstaging me every day with her incredible blogs, and because melinda posted pics of her cube, i thought i'd add some pics of what i do. mostly, i push this cart with these drugs around the hospital and drop them off at the floors where they belong.

ummmm ...
i feel like i should have something interesting to say today, but, well, i don't. classes started tuesday with research methods. should be interesting. this is the time when i'm thanking the gods of fate that i took stats last spring cuz i'll actually know what he's talking about when he says "you have to be sure to set the alpha level at .2" or something else equally statistical. and i think he's gonna be fun, kind of a cross between eddie izzard and garrison keeler. i'm thinking i might actually get something out of the diversity and oppression class (other than depressed about all the oppression in the world). this prof seems very interested in having lively class discussions. and knowing a couple of the people in my class who LOVE to talk we shouldn't have a problem with that one. if only i liked listening to those couple ... things on 3NE and 2E havn't changed since i've been gone. jeff and i were a little off kilter on wednesday when i started, but i think that was just because it had been so long. i'm really gonna push for more autonomy and i think he's open to it. i was just really bummed on thursday when i found out that claire, my favorite social worker at UMC, took a student who isn't me. not that i really had the option. but i'm hoping to meet the student and maybe we can help eachother through the semester.

what i did on winter break ...
i know this looks more like my refrigerator than
an homage to my break, but, no ... you would be wrong. we went to the gun range with my dad and i learned how to shoot a .357 handgun. i was suprised how much fun we had. the men at the range really made sure it was safe and that no one would get hurt. i didn't hit the target nearly as often as my dad and brother, but i was getting better at the end. kali hit the target a bunch of times!
we stayed with lori and gwen for most of the trip, and, while i'm pretty sure we wore out our welcome after day 3, lori insists they really enjoyed the visit. i wish we'd had more time to spend witheveryone, but there's never enough time when you only get to see them once a year. mike and nicole's wedding was beautiful! the chapel was a perfect location and kellogg center hosted a wonderful reception. we're still talking about how tasty and abundant the food was. oh, yeah ... and the bride and groom looked incredibly happy.
