next year

so, it's time to think about what internship i want to do next fall. *sigh* i'm having a hard enough time thinking about getting through this one.

anyway ... i had an interview today with the Southern Arizona Council Against Sexual Assault (SACASA - pronounced: sa-ka-saa). the woman i interviewed with is named Gipsy (i don't think her parents were hippies ...) and she was really nice. i almost didn't know what to do with the nice thing, i'm kind of not used to it. she was rather appalled when i mentioned at UMC we may spend less than 15 minutes with a patient. come to think of it, i'm a little appalled about that, too. sacasa has unlimited counseling for anyone who is the victim of sexual assault regardless of ability to pay. i'd get one hour of one-to-one supervision each week and be able to participate in the team case reports every week. it really sounds like someplace i could learn a LOT about how to be a therapist and how to work with people who have been assaulted. drawbacks: it's a really difficult issue to be immersed in for 480 hours in a year; i'd only be able to work with adults (they have few adolescents and no children clients); they don't have many groups at this time; and it's a small non-profit (i've had enough experience in that area to know the politics and kind of dread it). gipsy pretty much said the position is mine, if i'm interested.

my other interview is set for the 17th and is with the V.A. hospital. this one is paid (i hear you lori, think about the position, not the pay) and would be primarily with men. but the VA has a wider variety of types of positions available and i may be able to run goups, not just individual counseling. and it's a government position, and, while the non-profit is full of issues, the government beats it hands down. so, i'll see what happens at my interview in a couple weeks and hopefully decide then.

any suggestions???
